Domestic Violence...
Believe It. Help Change It.
You can help end domestic violence in Kansas.
If You Are Being Abused,
It's Not Your Fault.
Help is Available 24/7.
Talk to someone you trust, either face-to-face or on the phone, who can offer support and guide you to local resources.
Safety is a Priority.
Phone calls and computer usage can be monitored very easily. Use a computer at the library, at work, or borrow a friend’s computer or cell phone to access information safely.
Trust Your Instincts.
You are a survivor, and you know what is best to protect yourself and your children. Choose only the suggestions that make sense for your circumstances.
Call the Domestic Violence Program Nearest You.
Kansas is home to 30 domestic violence programs that offer shelter, support, and information about resources in your area.
Create a Safety Plan.
Safety planning is thinking ahead about how to increase safety at home, work, school, and in your community. Safety planning is an on-going process. The details will change as circumstances change, but it is always specific to you and your children. Specifics should only be shared with safe friends who can keep the information confidential from your abuser. Download the Safety Plan brochure for details.
If You Plan to Leave, Find Someone You Trust to Assist.
Tell them about your situation. Leave money, extra keys, copies of important documents, and clothing with them in advance, so you can leave quickly, if necessary.
Concerned About Immigration Status?
You may qualify under a law called the Violence Against Women Act. Talk to an immigration expert (NOT Immigration and Customs Enforcement) or your local domestic violence program for more information.
